Discord then hears Fluttershy say Tree Hugger is the funniest pony she's ever known (hope Pinkie wasn't eavesdropping) so he proceeds to try stand up comedy, we get a reference to late stand up comedian Rodney Dangerfield after Discord fails miserably at making the ponies laugh and Maud Pie burns Discord calling him "the most basic of jokes". After Discord cleans Rarity up he locks The Smooze in a closet full of gold.

A reference I didn't get until it was pointed out to me was the suits that Discord and The Smooze are wearing is a reference to the movie Dumb and Dumber.ĭiscord then spots Fluttershy and Tree Hugger talking and he tries to get her attention, he introduces them to The Smooze, calling him his oldest and best friend in an attempt to make Fluttershy jealous, but again he fails.ĭiscord then pushes The Smooze outside where he proceeds to eat all the gems off Rarity's dress. The Smooze being a character from the 1986 My Little Pony movie.

Tree Hugger talks in standard hippie lingo, Discord trying to get under her skin but failing.ĭiscord then retreats to his home (which reminds me of the ghost zone from Danny Phantom) where a mail pony delivers his ticket to the gala, he asks what took so long and the mail pony tells him that he got lost after some man eating badgers (would've loved to see that).Īfter that we go to the gala where Discord reveals his plus one to be a creature called The Smooze, a gelatinous green blob that feeds off valuables such as gems and gold. During Discord's visit with Pinkie we get a really funny reference to Metal Gear Solid before he sees Fluttershy with Tree Hugger. Discord is very saddened by this, questioning Fluttershy's friendship.ĭiscord makes his way to various other characters including Spike, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack, trying to get one of them to invite him to the gala. This episodes focuses on everyones favorite draconequus, Discord, who discovers his best friend Fluttershy has invited another friend named Tree Hugger to the Grand Galloping Gala has her plus one. Well after getting one of the least funny episodes yet last time we get one of the funniest episodes My Little Pony has ever delivered.
